This quilt is similar to my quilt "Field of Dreams" that won two ribbons at the Machine Quilter's Expo in New Hampshire. The original quilt was featured in a "Quilter's Newsletter Magazine" special publication "Quilt It For Keepsakes" in December 2007. Wow! So you think the price is out of the ballpark? If you are wondering how I arrived at $795, here is a breakdown. 12 new MLB t-shirts @ $20.each, total $240. Stabilizer material $14. 6.5 yards of top quality cotton fabric @ $10/yard, total $65. Quilting at 2.5 cents/sq. inch, $114. Thread $7. Batting $12. 20 hours of labor @ $20/hour, total $400. Hand finished binding $81. Not to mention shoppping for all those t-shirts, washing and drying them twice, washing all the fabric, electricity, hot water, wear and tear on my sewing machine, etc. The grand total is $933. So you see, $795 is a steal! And owning a one of a kind award winning Red Sox quilt... priceless.
These quilts are made in memory of Red Sox pitchers Smoky Joe Wood and Joe Wood Jr. Smoky Joe Wood (1889-1985, 1912 World Series) is my husband's grandfather. Joe Wood Jr. (1916-2002) is my husband's father. Thus my interest in the Red Sox!
